Organic Crib Mattress: Good for the environment and your baby

Babies spend most of their hours in bed. On the average, they actually use up half the day sleeping.  And since they are still vulnerable to infections and diseases, moms and dads need to put extra care on their baby’s sleeping space. A safe and comfortable mattress would keep you from worries. But how would you know if a mattress is safe?

Nowadays, regular crib mattresses are made up of artificial materials. Usually, its foam and vinyl covers contain chemicals and toxic residues—elements that can cause harm to your little one. It is extremely important that you choose the right sleeping set for your baby. One way of ensuring your child’s health and safety is by choosing an organic mattress for his sleeping quarter.

Organic Baby Mattress Defined

What is an organic crib mattress? We often associate the word “organic” to fruits and vegetables. When we say organic, we simply mean they are free from chemicals and other artificial substances. Organic mattresses are made up of natural and non-toxic materials such as cotton, wool, or natural fibers. This is an alternative for the chemically produced crib mattresses. During the manufacturing process, regular crib mattresses are exposed to harmful allergy-causing compounds. On the other hand, an organic crib mattress is free from these risks.

But not all organic mattresses are true to its name! Some of them can be made up of organic cotton but because of their vinyl covering, they are also not exempted from certain chemical exposures. How would you know if the crib mattress is certified organic? It really pays to check the label!  To ensure that a mattress is genuine, take a look at some of its certifications.
